BUTLER, MO — JUNE 14, 2026 — Tragedy struck near Butler Memorial Airport in Missouri when a private plane carrying 11 skydivers and a pilot crashed, killing everyone on board.
The Pacific Aerospace P750, a single-engine turboprop widely used for skydiving, took off from Butler Memorial Airport around 11:35 a.m. local time and then turned back for reasons not yet confirmed. The plane crashed near Business 49 Highway, according to the Bates County Emergency Management Agency.
Authorities say the plane may have experienced power issues during the left turn after takeoff, causing it to stall and crash nose-first, catching fire. Emergency responders quickly extinguished the flames.
According to Bates County Sheriff Chad Anderson, the crash is being treated as a mass casualty accident with no signs of criminal activity. Many passengers were inexperienced first-time skydivers preparing for a tandem jump.
Troopers, city police, and deputies responded to the scene and are assisting with the investigation. The FAA and NTSB have confirmed they will lead the official inquiry into the crash.
Nearby family members witnessed the crash at the airport. Missouri Highway Patrol confirmed the aircraft landed in a field adjacent to the airport, and nearby roads were temporarily closed for safety.
The tragic incident marks one of the deadliest skydiving-related plane crashes in recent years. Authorities urge caution and patience as the investigation continues.
