A popular raw dog food company has expanded a recall after federal officials warned that several frozen products may contain Listeria monocytogenes, a bacteria that can pose serious risks to both pets and people.
The recall affects Raaw Energy frozen dog food products manufactured from July 17, 2025, through Dec. 23, 2025. It also includes one batch of “Beef and Turkey Medley” dated March 31, 2026, according to a notice from the Food and Drug Administration.
The FDA said the recall was launched “out of an abundance of caution” after testing found listeria in multiple samples.
FDA Urges Consumers to Throw Away Affected Products
The FDA advised consumers not to use, sell, or consume any recalled items. Federal officials said the products should be discarded immediately to reduce the risk of illness.
The affected products were sold in 2-pound and 5-pound clear plastic tubes placed inside brown cardboard boxes.
Raaw Energy distributed the recalled frozen dog food through its website and pickup locations in Connecticut, Delaware, Massachusetts, Maryland, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
The recall covers a wide range of Raaw Energy dog food products. The FDA notice named several varieties, including:
- Beef and Chicken
- Beef and Turkey Medley
- Chicken Medley
- Hybrid Dog’s Best Friend
Other products are also included in the company’s recall.
Why Listeria in Pet Food Can Be Dangerous
Listeria can spread through contaminated pet food and any surfaces that touch it. The FDA said that can include pet bowls, countertops, and utensils.
In people, listeria infection may cause symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, fever, and muscle aches. More severe infections can spread to the nervous system and lead to meningitis, pregnancy complications, or death.
The FDA also warned that pets exposed to contaminated food may become infected without showing symptoms.
Raaw Energy said it has temporarily stopped all dog food production while it deals with sanitation concerns.
The production halt took effect on Thursday, May 21, 2026.
The move comes as the company expands its recall and federal officials continue warning consumers to avoid the affected products.
Consumers who have recalled Raaw Energy dog food should not feed it to pets or handle it as usable food. The FDA advised people to discard the affected items immediately.
The pet food recall matters because the contamination risk extends beyond pets. Listeria can affect people through contaminated food and surfaces, making safe disposal and careful handling important for households that may have purchased the recalled products.
